Taylor Kitsch, most well known for his role as Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights, took to Instagram earlier today to share that he is participating in this year’s “MURPH” challenge.

The Murph Challenge is more than just a workout. It’s a tradition that helps push us, humble us and allows us the opportunity to dedicate a bit of pain and sweat to honor LT. Michael P. Murphy, a man who sacrificed everything he had for our freedom. Since 2014, Forged® has raised over $1,000,000+ for the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation through The Murph Challenge campaign. The challenge consists of a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and a one mile run – all done while wearing a 20 pound vest or body armor.

Here’s Taylor Kitsch after he completed the Murph Challenge:

In 2013 Taylor Kitsch was cast in Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg’s film Lone Survivor. Kitsch portrayed real-life hero LT Michael P. Murphy.

It’s clear that the role made a big impact in Kitsch’s life. In 2017, Kitsch gave an interview where he talked about how a lot of his friends are members of the military he met during filming. He even spends Thanksgiving in Texas with Marcus Luttrell, a former United States Navy SEAL whom he met while making Lone Survivor.

Watch the interview below.

It’s unclear if Kitsch has participated in the Murph Challenge in past but we have every reason to believe this isn’t the first time. Since starting his Instagram account in 2018 Taylor has honored countless real-life heroes, especially LT. Michael P. Murphy. Kitsch has also become very close to the Murphy family and says he is honored to carry the torch for the rest of his day.

We can’t help but applaud Taylor’s dedication to bringing awareness to the Murph Challenge and to the real-life heroes whose stories deserve to be told.

Here are three times Taylor has honored LT. Michael P. Murphy on his Instagram.

Dunno why but this was the pic I had up in the trailer. Still love it. This journey more than any other has given back more than I could’ve imagined. To train with and be a part of this story and brotherhood is something I’ll forever hold close. Coming out of this with brothers and a way better understanding of the meaning of that n what ‘sacrifice’ truly means. To be taken in by his family n friends means so much. And still does. Honored to carry this torch for the rest of my days. And today I’ll simply say, ‘Happy Birthday Murph.’ @marcusluttrell @paulcraig2 #lonesurvivor #iwannabeonyou

Humbled today. What an amazing community in Patchogue. Thousands showed up in support of Mike Murphy, the fallen, those who continue to fight and of course the families and all first responders. Lucky to have been a part of telling the story of #operationredwings and in particular being taken in with the whole Murphy family. So thank you to all the people and families I met today for supporting and kind words. Lookin’ forward to next year! @runaroundlake #veterans #mikemurphy #stillwannabeonyou #lonesurvivor
